Closed‐form solution for scaling a wireless acoustic sensor network

Abstract A closed‐form solution for localising and synchronising an acoustic sensor node with respect to a Wireless Acoustic Sensor Network (WASN) is presented. The aim allow efficient scaling of WASN by individually calibrating newly joined nodes instead recalibrating the entire array. key contribution that be calibrated does not need include built‐in emitter. proposed method uses signals emitted from spatially distributed sources compute time difference arrival (TDOA) measurements between existing new sensor. problem then modelled as set multivariate non‐linear TDOA equations. Through simple transformation, equations are converted into system linear Then, weighted least squares applied find accurate estimate calibration parameters. Signal can either known emitters within or arbitrary in environment, thus allowing flexible applicability both active passive scenarios. Simulation results under various conditions show high joint localisation synchronisation performance, often compared Cramér‐Rao lower bound.
